
Sofia Airport Reports 14% Increase in Passenger Numbers in Jan-Feb 2016
The number of passengers passing through the airport in the Bulgarian capital increased by 14 % in the first two months of this year.
A total of 641 807 people were serviced at Sofia airport, daily Dnevnik informs.
There was 17 % increase in the number of passengers traveling on regular international destinations as result of the new direct routes launched in the summer of last year.
For the first time, during the current winter season, two of the traditional tourist routes of Thomas Cook are operated as regular rather than as charter flights.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of 7045 airplanes landed and took off from the airport, which represented an increase of 10 % on an annual basis.
The volume of cargo transported also increased by 12 %, reaching 2974 tonnes in the first two months of this year.
Sofia airport will start its summer schedule, which enters into force on March 27, with four new direct flights to Alicante, Oslo/Torp, Hamburg/Lubeck and Birmingham.
