10 YEARS WIZZ AIR AT SOFIA AIRPORT

For 10 years already Sofia Airport has been one of the main air carrier’s bases in Europe.

At the official ceremony marking the event, Mr. Jozsef Varadi, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, announced that as of December one more – seventh aircraft would be based at Sofia, three new routes would be launched to Doncaster/Sheffield, Basel and Nuremberg and the frequency of current ones would be increased.

This partnership dates back to 2006 when the first Wizz Air’s aircraft was based at Sofia Airport. Then the served routes were two – to Budapest and London (Luton).

The long-term cooperation turned the airline into one of the most active air carriers at the airport. Now there are 6 aircraft based in Sofia and the number of served routes is 29.

If the flights in 2006 were 264, last year they already became 3710. 10 years ago the airline carried 60 267 passengers and last year – 1 161 023. The total number of the passenger carried to and from Sofia Airport has reached 5.2 million.

The most popular route is Sofia – London/Luton with more than 1 200 000 passengers.

Sofia Airport celebrated the anniversary of its partnership with low-cost air carrier Wizz Air with a cake and champagne. The representatives of the airline arrived with flight W6913 and passed under a balloon arc to be congratulated by their hosts.
